Set in stone

Melling Railway Station, originally uploaded by Tom and Viv.

I love the typeface. The closest I can match it too is Stone Sans - a modern (1988) humanist face inspired by the likes of Gill Sans.
But of course this sign is older. And whoever set it could have just used their own, made-up, face.

That's a nice typeface.

I wonder if Melling is named after this place, which is just down the road from me.

Who knows? This isn't that much help.

If it wasn't for the "G" the typography would be quite ordinary. I quite like the natural drop shadow too.
